ANIS EBEID

1909-1988

Anis Ebeid, the visionary founder of the company, was born and raised in Egypt and earned his master’s degree In Engineering from Paris, France.

Since young age, he held a passion for films and filmmaking and was determined to create an impact in the industry. During his studies in Paris, he was inspired to combine this passion for the film industry with his study of Engineering by endeavoring in the movie subtitling business. For that he seized the opportunity to invent and build his own subtitle imprinting machine, making him the first in the world to ever insert subtitles on 16 mm films.

With the noble intent of enriching the Egyptian society with the global movie culture, Anis Ebeid established his company in Cairo and battled his way through the local cinema and film industry to get the support to test and implement his idea. Successfully, by 1944, the first fully Arabic-subtitled foreign movie was released in Egyptian cinemas – “Romeo and Juliette”—which then paved the way for a revolution in the foreign film presence in the Egyptian culture.

For 40 years, Anis Ebeid carried the sole global patent for the device, and had led the industry in the middle east to unprecedented opportunities of impact.
